Nothing takes away motherhood’s terrors.
Every splinter in a tender barefoot toe,
moan of dread, vomit peals breaking night,
willing the stomach’s ignorance.
Meet me in this place, will you?
Save words for later. For now, close them
into your fist, please silence the calm curl
of words tightly, in a scroll you store
in some cubby, some hidey hole
you forget to surveil, forget even
that you have lips or tongue,
keep them dormant,
take this single instance
to thank your shut mouth.
